Proposed Changes to Overtime Regulations Update

Reed’s human resources office has been closely monitoring proposed changes to overtime regulations by the U.S. Department of Labor, which were announced on April 23. The new regulations include adjustments to minimum salary thresholds. These changes will be implemented gradually, starting with the first adjustment of a minimum salary increase to $43,888 on July 1, 2024, followed by a second adjustment to $58,656 on January 1, 2025. Despite the college paying above-market rates, there will be positions that will become overtime-eligible if they do not satisfy the duties test outlined by the regulations.

Human resources has been and will continue conversations with supervisors who have positions in grades 3, 4, and 5 on their teams that may change from overtime-ineligible to overtime-eligible. After those conversations, employees will be notified if their status is changing.

The college is taking proactive measures to ensure compliance with the updated regulations while also considering its compensation structure and workforce dynamics.
