Monitoring Changes to Overtime Regulations

April 11, 2024 update:

Reed’s human resources office continues to closely monitor proposed changes to overtime regulations that the U.S. Department of Labor is currently considering. The updated DOL overtime rule is likely imminent and conversations are underway at both the federal level and at Reed College to determine next steps. It is important to note that no one’s salary will decrease because of these regulations, and it is likely that affected positions will move to an overtime-eligible status. Positions in exempt grades 3, 4, and 5 are under review and being considered for a change to overtime-eligible status. This would mean staff would be required to report all hours worked beyond their normal daily schedule up to 40 hours per week. Any overtime beyond 40 hours per week would require approval in advance by the staff’s supervisor.

What is the proposed overtime ruling? Read more about the proposal here.
